He recently married Kristin Schloemer, of Smyrna, GA, on July 2, 2011. Roger has a Bachelor of Science in Forest Resources from the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia. He is a registered forester in the state of Georgia and has 15 years of experience in forest research, timber procurement, and land management. Roger most recently worked as an ARRA Stewardship Forester with the Georgia Forestry Commission and a Landowner Assistance Forester with the MeadWestvaco Corporation.
Why the name Genesis Forest Management? The name "Genesis" was inspired from Roger's other job. Roger was formerly the Minister of Youth for First United Methodist Church of Pine Mountain. He was responsible for youth bible studies and programs for grades 6-12. Roger conducted many bible studies, but one of them really stuck with him. It was called God's Gift: Our Natural Resources. During the study, the youth group explored Genesis I and how God created the Earth and all of our precious natural resources. The lesson included the importance of wise use of our natural resources, recycling, and responsible forest management. These are the key principals of Genesis Forest Management.
Roger volunteers his time visiting schools (all grades) to talk about the environment and the responsibility we all have to ensure we have healthy forests and clean water for future generations. He also volunteers at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain where he has helped lead "Walk in the Forest" hikes and other educational programs. Roger also volunteers at the annual SAF/Billy Lancaster Forestry Youth Camp every summer at the FFA camp near Covington, GA. Roger currently serves on the Georgia Sustainable Forestry Initiative, Landowner Outreach Committee and serves on the Smyrna Tree Board. If you are intersted in having Roger come talk to your classroom at school, youth group, or any civic organization please contact him for availability and scheduling.
